Kieran McDermott, Winner of the FRS Network/Macra na Feirme Memorial Scholarship 2011
Clones Man Kieran McDermott at twenty two years of age is the winner of the Leadership based Farm Relief Services Scholarship. The National finals of the Farm Relief Services Memorial Scholarship took place at the Teagasc Colleges Challenge Day in Gurteen College, Co. Tipperary last Wednesday 11th May. The Scholarship is run in conjunction with Macra na Feirme and a Winner is selected to represent each Teagasc college as a National Finalist. Representing Ballyhaise College was Kieran McDermott from Clones, Co. Monaghan. In the National Final Kieran gave his winning presentation on the Monaghan County Community Alliance to a judging panel made up of Peter Byrne, FRS Networks CEO, Alan Jagoe newly elected National President of Macra and Paddy Browne Head of Education with Teagasc. Involved in the home dairy enterprise and an avid Monaghan Macra member who is heading to New Zealand during the summer to examine the dairy industry over there, Kieran will be busy as he takes up the scholarship. First prize will mean Kieran will spend three months gaining experience in all aspects of the Farm Relief Services business in their Ballyjamesduff Office.
